"Handel's Messiah: One Woman's Sacred Struggle"

This production, created by Clara Hurtado Lee, uses Handel's score to tell the story of Dr. Melissa Wei-Tsing Inouye, a prominent author, faith scholar, feminist, and professor, who passed away in April 2023. It uses a script adapted from her writings, and focuses on her fight with cancer, her grandfather's experience in an internment camp, her relationship with her mother, and her time spent as a missionary in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The alto soloist portrays the role of Melissa's mother, Susan Lew Inouye.
